Aaliyah: 10 Years Later.

Aaliyah= Highest Most Exalted One

When I think about Aaliyah Dana Haughton, many words come to mind. To me she was Talented, Beautiful, Effortless, Classy, Sweet, Street and Swag. Aaliyah was not only ahead of her time, but she made her time here on earth count. Not to knock any other female artist that are KILLIN the game right now, but Aaliyah had that THING that none can deny. Aaliyah had that swag that she can be one of the guys, one of the girls and EVERYONE loved her. When I see female artist out now, its all about SEX and not the talent. Aaliyah was sexy, but she didn't use her sexiness to exude her art. Aaliyah would hit her dance moves like she was a guy but overpower it will her own swag which made it so appealing to watch her.

August 25th, 2001 not only did we loose Aaliyah, but it made me realize how fragile life really can be. I never lost anyone that I was close to nor knew how real death can be. When the news broke, I was devastated. I couldn't believe it. No I didn't know her, but it honestly hit home. I cried for days and couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks. I thought to myself, how can someone so sweet, talented, and beautiful be taken so abruptly? Though it hit home it made me realize to appreciate things when we have it in front of us and live everyday like its your last because you never know.

Aaliyah was versatile and if I play any of her songs or videos now, they look/sound like they could have been released in 2012. So 10 years later Aaliyah your presence and memory is still alive. Though its sad that young girls in this era don't have a wonderful role model around like yourself.. images and music of you remain.

Next BIG Thing: Joelle James.

I was listening to a track on CB's "Boy In Detention" Mixtape called, "Leave the Club" and there was another voice that my ears were automatically tuned in to. The voice had so much passion, it was powerful, and it was hitting them runs that a lot of artist today aren't capable of doing! I looked at the track in my itunes and the title had  Joelle James' name in it. I then googled her and found her amazing YouTube videos and her story.

If you want to compare Joelle to anyone, I feel that her voice is a mix between Christina Aguilera's powerful, wide vocal range and JoJo's sultry, soulful delivery. Joelle has been on American Idol and sung at numerous sports events. It wasn't but until Chris Brown and his camp found her on YouTube and called her in to start a artist development deal with Chris Brown Entertainment, when things started rolling.
Joelle was a student from Berkeley with a dream, and her friend convinced her to make YouTube videos (best advice ever), next thing you know it this girl was generating thousands of hits and a phone call from Chris' people to get into the studio. I am really excited to see what she is going to do to the game, talent like that doesn't come very often and her voice gives me the chills!!

Magic Hour.

The magic hour
That's the ultimate for me
When it's almost dark
The sun is going down
And there's still that little bit of light left
That breeze is still there and it's still hot out
That is complete heaven for me.

Boy In Detention.

I swear Chris Brown can't do any wrong in my eyes.....When it comes to MUSIC that is. Whatever this man touches, it makes that song or music video 10x better. No one can deny that this man is exteremly talented. He can sing, dance his ass off (closest thing to MJ that we have), he acts.. even if he is killed within the first 5 mintues of a movie (Stomp the Yard), and now (get this) he RAPS!

"Boy In Detention" is a mixtape that CBreezy released last week. I seriously love every song on the tape, it's mostly him rapping, but we get his smooth sexy singing voice on some of the tracks as well. I reccomend this mixtape for anyone who likes that "fun" contempatry  hip-hop sound, and of course that sexy  RnB style that CBreezy does best.

Check out Chris Brown and Justin Bieber's rap alter ego Shawty Man, "Ladies Love Me". What do I think about JBiebs flow? Its nice.. but I know he didn't write it, and it seems like he is trying to mirror Weezy's delivery.. Just my thought.. Hence MY BLOG! hehe. What do you think?

For Them Southern Boys Out There.

It's August and you know what that means, it's time for that little award show called the VMA's! I always look forward to see who is going to blow me away with their performance, whose going to win the coveted moon man, and who is going to get Kanye Wested for the night!

MTV has decided to pay tribute to Britney Spears. Some people may disagree, but I think it is a good look. When you think of icons the first important question is:

#1. Are they a entertainer? Answer is yes, though Brit Brit isn't the best singer.. bitch is a full on performer.. as an artist if your not a performer you can't be an icon.

#2. Have they been around for a while and evolved their sound and look with the times? Answer is yes, Britney gives it to you in every era she knows how changing her look by even going bald one time (hahah I kid I kid), but from pop Britney to techno Britney she has brought it without a doubt.

#3. 10 years from now will we know who Britney is? I say hell YES! It has been 13 years and if you last that long and we still know and love you.. you are a ICON! Congrats Brit Brit! You deserve it! Can't wait to watch!

Take Back Words.

Talked to an old high school friend yesterday. Never has a conversation stuck with me and hung over my head the way it did last night. Without saying too much, she brought up the past and how somethings were said and never left her side. Seems like somethings in my life are like a cycle, same shit a different day. Same shit different people. I've been in search for something more. More meaning in life, and for me to be more in touch with my soul. This conversation not only re-opened my eyes to a lot about myself, but it can also be the start to the realization of myself and the search of happiness in life.

First stop is to make amends with those that I have hurt in the past and be able to forgive. Though one may not forget, forgiveness is a step closer to happiness. One may not know the power of words, but words can be a weapon against one, and can stick with people a life time.

She's the Queen of the Remix.

Nothing like after a LONG ASS day at work.. than to unwind to my girl Mariah Carey. She is the only artist that is the master at remix. I SWEAR...sometimes I like her remixes more than the original. I love to share my favorites with you all.. it hopes that maybe you will like it too!

Check out one of my favorites "Always Be My Baby (Remix)" ft The Brat (tat tat) and Escape. Mariah needs to stop playing and get back to Jermaine Dupri.. they have chemistry like no other.
