I recently found out that one of my absolutely favorite Amy Winehouse songs was inspired by Mr. Illmatic himself Nas. If you have heard her sultry jazz infused throwback track "Me and Mr. Jones", she makes references like "Mr Destiny 9 and 14' which was their shared birthday (September 14th) and Destiny is Nas' daughter's name.
It wasn't until recently Nas confirmed that he was the inspiration:
" Don’t really remember if Salaam, who was really close to her, who introduced us, if he told me about it or not,” Nas told XXL. “I don’t remember right now. But, I heard a lot about it before I even heard the song.”
This song will go down as a classic in my eyes. Her strong, passionate vocals sounded like she really loved her some Nas, and you can't forget that this song did start the "Fuckery" term that we ALL love so much. We miss you Amy!
